I’m currently carrying out a piece of benchmarking work on Full Time Equivalent (FTE) staffing for Benefits Processing.

We currently (as at 20/01/26) have 56.39 Benefits Officers in post covering the workload across our partnership of five Councils:
• Breckland
• East Cambridgeshire
• East Suffolk
• Fenland
• West Suffolk
We have a combined billing and benefits team with several generic roles developed to provide resilience, so there is some overlap in responsibilities across billing and benefits. Some of our Council Tax Billing Officers also administer Council Tax Support and some of our Benefits Officers, provide the end-to-end processing of Housing Benefits, Council Tax Support and Council Tax Billing.
